He has been a principal investigator on four EPSRC and five EU projects, has undertaken research and consultancy studies for numerous public and private sector organisations in the UK and overseas and been an adviser to several UK government departments and parliamentary committees, the European Commission, the International Transport Forum, International Energy Agency and OECD. &nbsp;In 2010 Prof McKinnon was appointed Chairman of the World Economic Forum\u2019s Logistics and Supply Chain Industry Council. &nbsp;He is a member of the High Level Group on Logistics set up by the European Commission to advise the Transport Commissioner of logistics issues. In 2012 he was appointed a lead author of&nbsp;the transport chapter in the 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;assessment report of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which will be published in 2014.&nbsp; Prof McKinnon\u2019s research has examined many different aspects of logistics, including retail logistics, freight transport management and policy, the environmental impact of logistics, supply chain trends and the links between logistics and freight traffic growth.
